King Gillette invented the disposable safety razor in 1901, and boy have they evolved. Up until the early 70’s folks used nice all metal good quality razors that could last a lifetime. The blades were disposable and any blade could fit any razor regardless of the manufacturer. These blades were double edged and quality brands would last for several shaves.
When disposable blade cartridges came out it allowed manufacturers to design them to only fit their brand, forcing the consumer to use their blades, therefore gaining control the price. Modern razors have been kind of a joke lately, going up to 3, 4, 5, and now even 6 blades and they vibrate now too. These are all marketing gimmicks to get you to buy their expensive blades.
